Some 60 million years ago the concretions started forming on the ocean floor. Centuries of coastline erosion have revealed a spectacular view of these curiously large spherical boulders.
Steampunk HQ is an interactive museum, which allows for exploration and discovery. It features an interesting collection of retro-futuristic sci-fi art, movies, sculpture and sound.
Vanished World Centre
The Centre has interpretive displays including unique world-class fossils – whales, dolphins, penguins, sharks and many shellfish while the trail introduces some key geological localities in North Otago.
Riverstone Kitchen is a more casual café by day before morphing into a relaxed yet focused evening restaurant. The short, uncluttered menu focuses on local ingredients, with much of the produce from the family's gardens.
